2009 Charleston, SC Winter Baseball Mini-Camp
A month or so ago, local sports medicine physician – Dr. Joseph Calandra – came to me with a proposal to put on a mini-camp there in Charleston for local baseball athletes and their families who are looking for some direction as to the most optimal method to performance train for baseball. I thought this was a great idea and we are going to make it happen!
The camp will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. each night on Dec. 16th, 17th, & 18th at the RiverDogs ballpark – Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Ballpark!
The strength & conditioning advantages of participating (or having your child participate):
- Comprehensive Movement Screen – each participant will be screened and their results analyzed – this screen will elicit asymmetries, imbalances, and dysfunction of the athlete’s movement patterns that when corrected properly, have been proven to reduce non-contact injury. We will also provide corrective strategies for the athlete.
- Core Focused Training & Strengthening – we will teach, practice, and review proper and safe core training for the rotational athlete.
- Upper-Body Focused Mobility & Strengthening – we will teach, practice, and establish proper upper-body symmetry & movement patterns.
- Lower-Body Focused Mobility & Strengthening – we will teach, practice, and establish proper lower-body symmetry & movement patterns.
- TD Athletes Edge Overhead Athletes’ Arm Exercise Program – we will teach, practice, and perform this arm program that will help reduce the unnecessary “pains” of throwing, and establish the proper muscle balance, recruitment, and strengthening patterns necessary to prevent the baseball athlete from overuse strains/tears.
- Energy System Enhancement – we will educate the athlete on the most effective and efficient methods to condition the baseball athlete. It’s not just about “running poles” anymore, we need the baseball athlete to be athletic! TD Athletes Edge, LLC utilizes the HIIT method of conditioning (High-Intensity Interval Training), and each day we will learn and do a new aspect of HIIT.
TD Athletes Edge, LLC is not just about putting up “big weight” in the weightroom, but we want to get our athletes bigger, stronger, and faster with safe methods. We help our athletes move better, more efficiently, more effectively. We utilize strength training to help prevent injuries for our athletes. Baseball has a unique set of physical demands, and we have a program that will help the baseball athlete not only be able to meet those demands, but exceed them!
The athlete will not only benenfit in the weightroom, but on the field too! We will have hitting & pitching/throwing instruction from two local baseball minds, Tyson Azevedo (Wando High School Varsity Pitching Coach/Junior Varsity Head Coach) & Chip Cannon (former AAA 1st Baseman in the Toronto Blue Jays organization)!
