2009 Aquatic Sports Performance Workshop
May 2nd, 2009 at the Salem State College O’Keefe Center | 225 Canal Street | Salem, MA 01970
| Based on Dr. Garry Killgore and Dr. Tim DiFrancesco’s extensive scientific and experiential research, the goal of this workshop is to enhance the understanding and appreciation of aquatic training and rehabilitation from a scientific and practical perspective, specifically for athletes. To achieve this goal, through active participation and discussion, the attendees will learn to analyze proper form and technique of deep and shallow water running, as well as related appropriate exercises, plyometrics, and drills. In conjunction, relevant scientific principles as they apply in an aquatic environment will be discussed, e.g. buoyancy, drag, density, depth of water, anthropometric differences, shod vs. barefoot, metabolic, physiological, and psychological effects, etc.
Topics & Features: - A combination of classroom and hands-on learning - Evidence Based: Introduction to the most recent research to back up the performance training approaches being presented - Standard vs. Advanced: The differences between training in a standard pool and in a HydroWorx pool with built-in underwater treadmill - Shallow to Deep: Energy System Development in the pool - Rehab & Prevention: How to avoid/rehab sport injury (including case studies) and how to shorten the gap from injury to competition using the pool - Aquatic Movement Prep: Using the pool as a modality for movement preparation with your athletes - Aquatic SAAQ: How to supplement land based Speed, Acceleration, Agility, and Quickness development in the water - Aquatic Triple Extension: Using explosive “Olympic” like movements in the water - Aquatic Med Ball: Using the medicine ball for rotational core training in the water - Sport Specificity: How to create a sport-specific aquatic strength & conditioning program for your individual athletes or for team session _________________________________________ **All attendees will have access to comprehensive manuals, DVD’s, and the best aquatic training equipment/apparel available
